The John Kitzhaber, M.D. Chair on Health Care Policy

The Foundation for Medical Excellence Board of Directors in 2002 created The John Kitzhaber, M.D. Chair on Health Care Policy. Governor Kitzhaber continued his work with the Foundation as the first recipient of the John Kitzhaber, M.D. Chair on Health Care Policy from 2003-2010.

In January 2019, the Foundation Board of Directors re-established the John Kitzhaber Chair for Health Policy and appointed Governor Kitzhaber as the Chair.

The Chair has created an environment for Dr. Kitzhaber to provide the vision and leadership that has made Oregon a healthcare pioneer. He has been active in research, writing and speaking on the national quest to make quality health care affordable and available to all.

There are few individuals in America more qualified to have a major role in healthcare reform than Governor Kitzhaber. His combined experience as a physician, an elected official, and an eloquent speaker, brings hope that for the first time in our nation’s history, we can develop a sustainable healthcare system that provides coverage to everyone.
